Health Hazards of Mining and Quarrying ILO Encyclopaedia
The principal airborne hazards in the mining industry include several types of particulates, naturally occurring gases, engine exhaust and some chemical vapours; the principal physical hazards are noise, segmental vibration, heat, changes in barometric pressure and ionizing radiation.Motivated by the increasing fatality rate and need to improve quarry safety, this study explored workers' hazard identification skills in the operation of three common pieces of equipment (i.e., hydraulic excavator, blade saw, breaker) to better understand surface miners' hazard perceptions and prevention skills in the workplace.Promoting the Quarry Workers' Hazard Identification Through Formal

Occupational injuries and risk assessment among stone
These occupational injuries, in turn, caused workers’ ill health, as well as death, which eventually diminish the gross domestic product. We aimed at assessing the attributes of occupational injuries and the risk associated with the hazards in the stone-crushing industry. The study concluded that the exposure to stone dust among the quarry workers perhaps leads to deterioration of their cardiovascular and pulmonary health. Background: Occupational health is a neglected public health issue among healthcare workers in developing countries.[PDF] Occupational health hazards of stone quarry workers

The increase in demand of building stones and construction-grade sand has resulted in aggressive hard rock quarrying in many parts of the world. Identifying Significant Hazards in Quarries Information Sheet. Any hazard or potential hazard should be considered significant or potentially significant if such a failure would directly or indirectly, be liable to endanger premises, roadways or other places where people are likely to be found offsite; or likely to cause serious or fatalSome negative effects revealed were, land degradation and loss of top soil; pollution and vibration; and development of Cracks in Buildings. Despite the negative effects, the positive outcomes seem to outweigh the negatives owing to the extenuation measures implemented by the companies.Contextualizing the effects of stone quarrying: insights from
